Chicago biotech company 3D prints a mini human heart
BioLifeEddy (BIOLIFE4D), a biotech company in Chicago, has announced that it has successfully printed a human heart smaller than a 3D printer. The structure of this little heart is exactly like the original human heart. The company has called it an important milestone in the development of 3D-printed heart transplants.
It is made from heart-derived cardiac file cells or cardiomyocytes and bio-inks obtained from the extracellular matrix compound.
BioLifeForD first published bio-prints of human cardiac tissues in June 2018The company hopes to gradually succeed in printing human-sized hearts. From a theoretical point of view, the need for heart donors after bioprint hearts will be eliminated or reduced. BioLifeforD is not the only company working on human organ printing.
Researchers at the University of Tel Aviv took a human heart 3D print earlier this year. Many other universities are working on human heart printing.
