Huawei is working on its own mapping service
Huawei has officially confirmed that it is working on its mapping service to reduce its reliance on Google services. Could not use Google Maps on phones.
Huawei's mapping service is called Map Kit. It is not intended for direct users, but is provided as an API for third-party developers, making it the developer's navigation software.
Although Huawei is new to the mapping field, it is collecting information from 150 countries and regions of the world.
Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Dew says the mapping kit will feature many advanced features. These features include car lane conversion, advanced reality direction and mapping. The mapping kit will be available in 40 languages, increasing its popularity early on.
Investigators say that Russian mapping and Internet service provider Yandex and US-based Booking Holdings will be the initial partners of Huawei's mapping service.
